Meet the Interns

Meet Our 2025 Summer Interns

We’re proud to present our summer interns for 2025. Our internships are fully funded by donations. Thanks to our generous donors, we were able to fund a full staff of summer interns!

Blair Kinsey

Blair Kinsey is a native Austinite, mathematician, and writer. After spending a few years getting her degree from Rhodes College in Memphis, she returned home and serendipitously landed an internship at Austin Bat Refuge. This now being her second summer as an intern at ABR, Blair has loved every minute she’s spent with bats. She’s continuously captivated by bats’ unique personalities and expressiveness — reveling in every chance to make inter-species connections. Bats are, as Blair has found, charming, loving, daring, and spirited — all things Blair strives to be as well!

Avery Wisniewski

Avery is currently a senior at UT studying biology with a concentration in evolution, ecology, and biodiversity. He started volunteering at ABR in January and fell in love with the mission, the people, and of course the bats! Working here has been a dream for Avery, and he loves seeing how many people from all over Texas care about these bats and bring them in to the knowledgeable and restorative care of Lee and Dianne. He has learned so much since starting at ABR and is excited to continue learning about and caring for the bats.

Laura Stevens

Laura is a University of Oklahoma biology graduate who is living her dream of working with animals through the Austin Bat Refuge! She is excited to be helping with bat conservation and education.

Grace Smith

Grace will be beginning her junior at Ohio University, studying Conservation Biology. In her free time she likes to read, do crafts, camp, and anything outdoors. Her favorite thing about the bats is picking out their names and watching the babies grow into big bats.

Brynn Clare

Brynn Clare will be a senior at North Carolina State University this year. She’s studying Environmental Science with a focus in evolution, ecology, and conservation. She spent this past semester in Ecuador and studied how oil drilling in the Amazon rainforest is impacting the unique biodiversity. This experience ignited her passion for wildlife conservation. Her favorite thing about bats is getting to know each of their personalities and quirks!
