Education

Bats have long been one of nature’s most misunderstood creatures. That’s why we’ve made education one of our core tenets. We know that a changed perception leads to protection. Monthly Education Highlight: Pup Season

Late May-early June marks the beginning of Pup season– the time of year that our local bat species give birth to their young. Our local species give birth only once annually. Mexican Free-Tail Bats (pictured) give birth to only one pup, while other species like the Eastern Red Bat give birth to 2-4 pups.
Pup season also marks the beginning of our busy rehab season. As the temps rise and rain dries up, new mothers can easily get into trouble. At the height of the season, we’ll have around 70 injured mothers with pups, and individual orphaned pups, each needing specialized care.
Check out our Instagram for stories of recent baby bat rescues, or donate here to help us keep taking care of bats in need!
