5 minutes before sunset ~25,000 brave and noble bats waited until the tornado went by then flew 4 miles NW to meet another storm and see if it was pushing any insects along its leading edge (10% went to altitude) – Winds S at 10 mph – had been southerly 17-23 mph all afternoon with gusts to 37 mph, Visibility 8 miles, Thunderstorm Light Rain turning Mostly Cloudy, Temp 72°F, Dew Point 68°F steady, 4 Cooling Degree Days, Cloud Base 912′, RH 87% rising, Heat Index 79°F, BP 29.58 rising, Sea Level had been 999.9 mb just an hour earlier, bats viewable until 9:04 pm when another storm arrived. The bats must have had so much fun flying up toward that oncoming thunderhead with the glorious sunset light illuminating their hunting!
